Boneca de Atauro

This photo series was part of photo assignment from Australian Volunteers Program in Timor-Leste.

I’ve rarely had so much fun on any one job as the time I spent with this group of creative, strong women. Atauro is a small island you can just see on the horizon from Timor-Leste’s capital, Dili. Making a living in an isolated place with few natural resources is not easy, but these women have taken on the challenge with their own skills and ideas. The dolls and other toys they produce are now finding markets nationally and internationally.
